A local resident once said ‘ There is magic in the air in Wakkerstroom. If it grabs you, you will fall in love and never leave’, and so it is that many residents have settled in the charming village of Wakkerstroom, which is set in a beautiful valley in Southern Mpumalanga, less than 3 hours from Johannesburg, Pretoria and Nelspruit.
Wakkerstroom is a wonderful place to stopover en route to or from the Drakensberg, Kruger Park, various Kwa-Zulu Natal National Parks and the Northern Kwa-Zulu Natal coast, as well as being the perfect destination to rest, relax and soothe your soul.
With the main industry in Wakkerstroom being focused around tourism, the village has over 40 accommodation establishments which range from a fully serviced small country hotel to guest houses, bed & breakfasts, self catering cottages and a caravan and camping site, so there is something to suit every need and budget. Wakkerstroom, like most of South Africa, is a colourful society, with people from all over South Africa as well as around the world choosing to make this their home. There is so much local talent, from artists, a Zulu dancing group, a Schatamiya singing group, decoupage, bead work and so much more.
Wakkerstroom has many wonderful, funny and inspiring stories waiting to be told. All you need to do to hear them is to get here…

PLEASE NOTE: If you are travelling from either Johannesburg or Pretoria, please set your GPS to shortest route rather than fastest/quickest route as it tends to direct via major highways and can add as much as 2 hours to your journey! Happy travelling!
